xxiAbout the AuthorsDAREN STARNES has taught a variety of statistics courses%u2014including AP%u00ae Statistics, Introductory Statistics, and Mathematical Statistics%u2014for more than 25 years. He earned his MA in Mathematics from the University of Michigan and his BS in Mathematics from the University of North%u00a0Carolina at Charlotte. Daren has been a Reader, Table Leader, and Question Leader for the AP%u00aeStatistics exam for more than 20 years. As a College Board consultant since 1999, Daren has led hundreds of workshops for AP%u00ae Statistics teachers throughout the United States and overseas. He frequently presents inperson and online sessions about statistics teaching and learning for high school and college faculty. Daren is an active member of the National Council of Teachers ofMathematics (NCTM), the American Statistical Association (ASA), the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC), and the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE). He served on the ASA/NCTM Joint Committee on the Curriculum in Statistics and Probability for six years. While on the committee, he edited the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) pre-K%u201312 report. Daren is also coauthor of the best-selling textbook for the AP%u00ae Statistics course, The Practice of Statistics (now in its seventh edition), and of the new college text Introductory Statistics: A Student-Centered Approach. He received a BS in Mathematics from Biola University, in La Mirada, California. In recognition of his outstanding work as an educator, Josh was named one of the five finalists for Arizona Teacher of the Year in 2011. He is a past member of the AP%u00ae Statistics Development Committee (2005%u20132009) as well as an experienced Reader, Table Leader, Question Leader, and Exam Leader at the AP%u00ae Statistics Reading since 1999. He currently serves on the SAT Mathematics Development Committee and NAEP Mathematics Standing Committee. Each year, Josh leads one-week AP%u00ae Summer Institutes around the country and frequently speaks at local, national, and international conferences. In addition to teaching and speaking, Josh has authored articles in The American Statistician, The Mathematics Teacher, STATS Magazine, and The Journal of Statistics Education. Combining his love of statistics and love of sports, Josh teamed with Christine Franklin to write Statistical Reasoning in Sports, an innovative textbook for on-level statistics courses.Josh is also coauthor of the best-selling textbook for the AP%u00ae Statistics course, The Practice of Statistics(now in its seventh edition), and the new college text Introductory Statistics: A Student-Centered Approach. Outside of work, Josh enjoys gardening, traveling, and playing board games with his family.LUKE WILCOX is a respected leader in math education, with 23 years of teaching experience at East Kentwood High School, the most diverse public high school in the state of Michigan. His teaching has been recognized with the 2013 Presidential Award and the 2018 Michigan Teacher of the Year award, each giving him the opportunity to visit the White House to meet the president. Luke supports math educators through a variety of in-person and online workshops, as well as being a frequent presenter at local and national conferences. Luke co-developed the Stats Medic website to provide teachers with high-quality lesson plans. Rebranded and expanded as Math Medic, this website is positively transforming math instruction in over 100,000 classrooms around the world. Luke promotes an Experience First, Formalize Later approach to teaching statistics%u2014in which students engage in the mathematical thinking and reasoning before being provided formulas and definitions.
