xAbout the Authors Barbara S. Hildebrant Barbara S. Hildebrant received her PhD in geography from Rutgers University. Barbara started her career at ETS in 1999 as an assessment specialist, responsible for the launch of AP %u00ae Human Geography. She continued on to serve as the senior assessment director for AP %u00ae Human Geography at ETS until her retirement in 2019. During her 20-year career at ETS, Barbara steered AP %u00ae Human Geography from the administration of 3000 exams in 2001 to 250,000%u00a0exams at the time of her retirement. Barbara led development committees, assisted Chief Readers at the annual Readings, reviewed and approved test questions, and met regularly with College Board representatives to ensure that the AP %u00ae Human Geography Exam met their rigorous standards. Barbara continues her involvement with AP %u00ae Human Geography as a reader, an activity that she enjoys. Prior to joining ETS, Barbara taught human geography and anthropology at Rutgers University and Raritan Valley Community College. Barbara has organized annual professional development workshops for AP %u00ae Human Geography teachers through her work with NCGE, where she served on the board of directors from 2020 to 2025. She has presented papers at professional organizations around the world and has published peer-reviewed articles on AP %u00ae %u00a0Human Geography for numerous publications. For her dedication to AP %u00ae Human Geography, Barbara received the Gilbert Grosvenor Honors for Geographic Education from AAG in 2008, and in 2015 was honored with the George J. Miller Award for Distinguished Service to Geographic Education from NCGE. Although retired, Barbara remains active in AP %u00ae Human Geography. She also enjoys spending time with her two sons and their families, world travel with her husband, Regan Vercruysse, and taking their two English Springer Spaniels, T%u00e9o and Tessa, for walks. Seth Dixon Seth Dixon has been a geography professor at Rhode Island College since 2009 and is currently serving as the department chair for the political science department. Previously he was the Chief Reader for the AP %u00ae Human Geography Exam and the coordinator for the Rhode Island Geography Education Alliance. In 2000, while teaching in junior high, he returned to school to focus on teaching in higher education. After Brigham Young University, he received his doctorate from Penn State with the goal of teaching pre-service teachers. While in graduate school, he researched the cultural and historical geographies of Mexico City%u2019s monuments. This research on differences in cultural landscapes and his emphasis on educational issues prepared him to work with organizations like National Geographic Education and the National Council for Geographic Education. He has been a reader for AP %u00ae %u00a0Human Geography since 2005 and has enjoyed collaborations with ETS, including various roles for the AP %u00ae Human Geography program and NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress). Prior to being a professor, he was a children%u2019s librarian and still nurtures those librarian tendencies by cataloging, archiving, and curating digital resources on his website, geographyeducation.org. Max Lu Max Lu is a professor of geography at Kansas State University. He has done research on topics such as population migration, rural population change, regional development, and the geography of methamphetamine labs. His research has been published in internationally renowned geography and interdisciplinary journals such as Geographical Review , Environment and Planning A , Geografiska Annaler , Growth and Change , and Global Environmental Change .
