The Silent Generation The Silent Generation consists of people born between 1928 and 1945 (the end of World War II). The origin of the term is generally attributed to the political cautiousness of its members. This generation lived through the Great Depression of the 1930s and the Second World War and is relatively small because people had fewer children in those difficult times. The Silent Generation values hard work and tends to be frugal (%u201cwaste not, want not%u201d) and averse to debt. Demographers use the term cohorts for such groups of people.
