People are living longer (death rate has decreased); women are in the workforce and having fewer children; more access to contraceptives has kept birth rates low.  d. Immigration may lower a country%u2019s median age because immigrants tend to be young.  e. Workers will need to support a larger number of elderly people. More of the government%u2019s budget will need to be allocated for medical services and retirement costs and facilities for the elderly.  f. More resources will need to be spent on education and health care for children and adolescents. There will be greater pressure to find employment for the growing population.  g. An aging population may require governments to spend more resources on the elderly and resort to immigration to solve labor shortage problems, both of which may be controversial politically. Governments facing a more youthful population will have the pressure of providing education and employment to its growing population. Not meeting these needs could lead to political instability.
