You%u2019ll learn how to make and describe stemplots in this lesson.1 5562 0333442 556677788888993 1133 555677784 334 77KEY: 2 | 8 means thesoft drink contains28 mg of caffeine per8-ounce serving.Making StemplotsStemplots give us a quick picture of a distribution of quantitative data that includes the actual values in the graph. You can make a stemplot by hand for small sets of quantitative data. For details on making stemplots with technology, see the Tech Corner later in the lesson. How to Make a Stemplot1. Make stems. Separate each data value into a stem (all but the final digit) and a leaf (the%u00a0final digit). Write the stems in a vertical column from smallest to largest. Draw a vertical line at the right of this column. Do not skip any stems, even if there is no data value for a particular stem.2. Add leaves. Write each leaf in the row to the right of its stem.3. Order the leaves. Arrange the leaves in increasing order out from the stem.4. Add a key. Provide a key that includes the variable name and describes what the stems and leaves represent.FIGURE 1.4 Stemplot showing the caffeine content (in milligrams or mg per 8-ounce serving) of various soft drinks. How many votes in the Electoral College?Making a stemplotPROBLEM: To become president of the United States, a candidate does not have to receive a majority of the popular vote. The candidate does, however, have to win a majority of the 538 electoral votes that are cast in the Electoral College. The table shows the number of electoral votes (EV) in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on the 2020 U.S. Census and are effective for the 2024 and 2028 presidential elections. Make a stemplot of these data.EXAMPLELynn Grieveson/Newsroom/Getty Images%u00a9 Bedford, Freeman & Worth Publishers. For review purposes only. Do not distribute.
